Our Curriculum

Our curriculum supports children to unlock opportunities today and tomorrow. With our values at the heart of everything, we have designed a curriculum that will give our pupils the keys to a happy and successful future, in the next stage of their education and for the rest of their lives. Therefore, we have the following core principles:

  • Personalised partnership with parents
  • Personal growth and development
  • Assessment of progress and understanding
  • Strong Foundations in a broad, rich curriculum offer
  • Supporting all pupils including the most vulnerable so that every child can achieve and thrive

We focus on academic achievement and personal development. Beginning with strong foundations, we aim to give our pupils the essential building blocks they need to explore a broad and rich curriculum offer.

Strong Foundations

We aim to focus on securing foundational knowledge as a priority. In our reading, writing and mathematics curriculum every class ensures we teach things in the right order at the right time.

Phonics and Early Reading are prioritised with a robust fidelity to the Little Wandle scheme.

Pupils practice daily fluency  in mathematics.

Unit plans in mathematics reflect the breadth of the NC with a focus on numeracy.

Personal growth and development

We use the SCARF PSHE curriculum and a range of assemblies and daily interactions to help our children to feel safe and happy and to develop the Chapelhill values. Our behaviour and relationships policy is based on positivity and encouragement and an understanding of being Ready, Respectful and Safe. We support wellbeing every day and make use of the skills of our wonderful adults and the My Happy Mind scheme.

Our curriculum offers opportunities for the pupils to achieve, thrive and develop their own passions and, talents and interests.

Supporting vulnerable pupils, including those with SEND so that everyone can achieve and thrive

We are proud of our Resourced Provision and our mainstream classes. Our school family includes much higher numbers of pupils with SEND than most schools. We therefore aim to extensively adapt our curriculum, focused on delivering richness and variety but adapted so that leaners can access, thrive and make progress in every learning situation.

Assessment

We make use of rich and detailed assessment data (through PiXL and iASEND) to target teaching so that we can swiftly address the learning needs of our pupils. We base keep up and catch up interventions around pupils’ needs and any gaps in learning.

Partnership with parents

We believe that securing a bright and promising future for a child involves working in partnership today for a successful tomorrow. This means planning with parents, listening and responding and continuing to develop our work with a range of providers to wrap care, support and education around the child and the family.

As we have mixed-age classes, our curriculum is split into year A and year B.

2025-26 will follow Year A. Please click below to view our curriculum.
