Geography

At Chapelhill Primary, we want every child to develop curiosity about the world and understand their place within it as informed global citizens. Our Geography curriculum follows the National Curriculum in England and is delivered through the Kapow Primary scheme of learning, building pupils’ knowledge of local, national and global environments while developing key geographical skills. Through studying a range of places, from our local area to globally significant locations such as Shanghai, Kenya and Antarctica, pupils learn about human and physical geography and the diversity of our world.

The curriculum is delivered through a carefully sequenced two-year rolling programme to ensure progression from Year 1 to Year 6. Lessons focus on developing locational knowledge, mapping, fieldwork and geographical vocabulary, with retrieval practice supporting long-term learning. Pupils move from learning basic mapping and fieldwork skills in Key Stage 1 to undertaking more independent enquiries, data analysis and advanced mapping in Key Stage 2.

We aim for pupils to leave Chapelhill Primary as confident geographers who can locate key places, compare environments and explain geographical processes using accurate vocabulary, enabling them to understand and engage thoughtfully with the world around them.
