Sandbrook Primary School

Design Technology

Our Design and Technology curriculum follows the National Curriculum in England and is based on the Kapow Primary scheme. We want every child to see themselves as a designer and problem-solver. Through designing, making, and evaluating, children develop creativity, innovation, resilience, and technical understanding.

We teach design technology through a two-year rolling programme to ensure full National Curriculum coverage. Lessons follow the design process: research, design, make, and evaluate, ensuring coverage of structures, mechanisms, textiles, electrical systems, and cooking and nutrition. Knowledge and skills are carefully sequenced to build over time, supported by Kapow’s built-in adaptations that scaffold learning to meet the needs of every child. We aim for our pupils to leave Chapelhill Primary with secure technical knowledge and the confidence to design and create purposeful products in an ever-changing world.
