Sandbrook Primary School

Music

At Chapelhill Primary, we want every child to enjoy music and feel confident as a performer, composer, and listener. Our curriculum follows the National Curriculum in England and is based on the Kapow Primary scheme adapted for our mixed-age classes, enabling children to build musical skills through singing, playing instruments, composing, and listening to a wide range of music from different times and cultures.

We teach music through a two-year rolling programme to ensure full National Curriculum coverage. Lessons are practical and enjoyable, with children actively engaged in singing, movement, instrument playing, and creative composition. Kapow’s clear progression and high-quality resources support teachers, featuring built-in adaptations that allow every child, regardless of their starting point, to thrive. Children take part in performances, celebrations, and enrichment activities throughout the year. We aim for our pupils to leave Chapelhill with a rich appreciation for music and the confidence to express themselves through both performance and composition.
